In Australia cheque usage is declining

The payment landscape in Australia is changing. Customers are opting out of using cheques and choosing to make payments through simpler and faster digital methods.

We are making the following changes to our cheque services:
 
Effective Date                Change
30 June 2026 Bank Cheques can no longer be requested. We will still honour any Bank Cheques that have already been issued.

Alternative ways to pay

The ‘Pay Anyone’ feature allows you to send payments using a PayID or BSB and account number in your internet banking or in the ME Go app.

  • Pay Anyone payments

    The ‘Pay Anyone’ feature allows you to send payments using a PayID or BSB and account number in your internet banking or in the ME Go app.

  • Debit Card Payments

    Make fast and easy payments through your internet banking or ME Go app using the BPAY Biller Code and Reference found at the bottom of your bill.

  • BPAY payments

    Make fast and easy payments through your internet banking or ME Go app using the BPAY Biller Code and Reference found at the bottom of your bill.

  • Direct Debit Payments

    You set up a direct debit request with a business, using your BSB and account number. This enables them to automatically withdraw money from your account on a scheduled basis. Many utility suppliers like gas, water and electricity companies provide this option to pay your bills.
